Masters 2017 tee times: Sunday pairings, Sergio Garcia & Justin Rose in final group

How the final round at Augusta sets up.

The final group to tee off on Sunday at the Masters will be Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose. The two players put themselves in that slot by emerging atop the leaderboard through 54 holes at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. There are just 18 to go. There are a lot of enticing-looking groups set to go off later in the afternoon.

Saturday was a dramatic day, full of all the movement you’d expect on a Saturday at Augusta. The weather was beautiful, after high winds made the course a challenging one to play for the tournament’s first two days. Players shot about two strokes better on average than they did on the first two days. The conditions were amenable for moving day, and several players moved.

It doesn’t require a PhD in golf theory to deduce that Sunday at the Masters is going to be great. It certainly will be, and that’d be true even if the leaderboard weren’t set up as well as it is. But the names near the top should make the day even better. A bunch of the best players in the world are right there, including a couple of major champions. Garcia’s got another shot to win his first major ever, as does young star Jon Rahm and veteran journeymen Hoffman and William McGirt.

Jordan Spieth is his own storyline. Spieth was a prime mover on Saturday, going from even par for the tournament to 4-under and squarely in contention. Spieth has finished no worse than second in any of his three Masters starts, winning the green jacket in 2015. This is Spieth’s golf course as much as it’s anybody’s, and he’s in a position to win there for a second time.

Spieth endured a grisly finish at Augusta on Sunday last year. He’s spent the last year coming to grips with his final-round collapse and waiting for a shot to avenge it. He’s given himself that chance on the eve of what looks like it will be one of the most dramatic golfing days of the year. It’ll be a treat to watch it.
