Welcome to SB Nation’s Daytona 500 qualifying live blog where we’ll keep you updated with news and happenings going on throughout Sunday’s time trials.

The qualifying format for NASCAR’s biggest race can be a bit confusing, but what’s important to know for simplicity’s sake is that on Sunday, only the top two qualifiers will lock themselves into starting spots. Beyond that, the remainder of the 40-car field will be determined following the Can-Am Duel qualifying races on Thursday night.

If you’re looking for a favorite to capture the pole, a driver with a blue oval on their hood might be the safest bet. Ford drivers posted four of the top five speeds and seven of the top 10 overall in Saturday’s four-hour practice session, with Team Penske’s Joey Logano atop the scoring sheet at 193.116 mph.

Forty-two drivers will record a time Sunday, and after everyone has made a run the top 12 will advance to the second round. They will then re-qualify, with whomever is fastest winning the pole for next Sunday’s Daytona 500 (2 p.m. ET, FOX).

Chase Eliott won the pole as a rookie a year ago. – All Posts
